Welcome Note by HE the Sercetary General
Distinguished Delegates,
Dear Friends,

It is my distinct honour and pleasure to invite you to attend the Rhodes Model Regional Cooperation, which will be held in the beautiful and unique island of Rhodes, Greece, for five days, in October 17-21, 2012.

Being the second oldest simulation conference in Greece, RhodesMRC is dedicated to regional international organizations. During that period, participants from all over the world will have a unique chance to interact with students from Greece and other nations. The participants of RhodesMRC will take the stand as diplomats of countries, different from those of their origin, to debate and resolve on various issues that affect our region, expanding and contributing to this year's general theme "Towards Effective Peace-building and Sustainable Development on a regional level".

This year, the Organizations which will be simulated will be the Union for the Mediterranean, the Black Sea Economic Committee and the Council of Europe. Therefore, we expect to have the most intelligent, motivated, willing and dedicated delegates, eager to participate and elaborate on the crucial topics set for discussion in each of the aforementioned Committees and we all count on you for their success.

Based on the success of the previous years, for 2012 we are taking a step forward, adding the High School edition Committees, giving the opportunity to youngsters around the world to take part in a unique simulation. High school students will have the chance to simulate the role of diplomats, addressing a variety of issues in world politics that influence every nation of the world, regardless its standing position among within the international community. At the same time, as students and members of the civic society, they will have the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of international relations and to cooperate with others to find solutions to some of the world's most pressing problems, while being a part of a vivid community discussing on contemporary affairs, which affect our world today.

RhodesMRC 2012 agenda is entirely proposed and adopted by the chairpersons of different committees, dedicated undergraduates from various Greek and international universities who work tirelessly for months. Their wealth of knowledge, experience, diversity and ranging interests greatly contribute to the overwhelming success of the conference.

This year's event promises to be a great example of today's young leaders and their capacity for dialogue, debate and the innovative solutions that result. In addition, it is a unique opportunity to explore the beautiful island of the Aegean, Rhodes. In addition to the committee work, our conference offers a rocking social schedule, a convenient location near all the city's hotspots, and great weather, while offering you the opportunity to visit one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Monuments, the Medieval City of Rhodes, with the Palace of the Grand Master, the Archaelogical Museum and the Street of the Knights, the alleys of the Medieval and Ottoman periods, where Gothic architecture coexists with mosques, public baths and other buildings dating centuries back.

Based on the success of Rhodes MRCduring the previous years, as well as on our commitment for hard work, I assure you on behalf of the Organizing Committee, the Members of the Board, the Scientific Committee and the RhodesMRC Staff that we will do our part in writing another chapter in the successful history of RhodesMRC. I feel humbled to be a part of this project and strongly encourage all of you, present and potential future diplomats and leaders of the world, to join us once again for a great experience.

We look forward to seeing you at the conference this autumn and wish you the best for your preparations.
